Andrew Sumarsono MD MPH

Andrew Sumarsono MD MPH is a board-certified internal medicine physician at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he serves as his division’s first Clinician Scholar. His clinical work centers at Parkland Hospital, where he provides inpatient care for underserved populations in Dallas. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of California Los Angeles and completed his internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center. After residency, he completed the Journal of Hospital Editorial Fellowship and graduated with a master’s degree from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. He serves as a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Research Committee.

Dr. Sumarsono brings a curious mind and collaborative spirit to the teams with whom he works. His areas of expertise include clinical trials, implementation science, social determinants of health, and heart failure. He is passionate about narrowing the health disparities of underserved communities through scientific and technological innovations. His research has resulted in dozens of scientific articles in high-impact medical journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine and JAMA Cardiology and his work has been publicized in the media.
